Literature Text

As I move in my heart rate leaps
Running three beats per minute fast
Don't rush the climax, relish their fear
Make the moment last

The hunger in me never ends
It drives me on and on
The burning need to know, to take
That feeling's never gone

I wanted to be special
To change, to be unique
Life always seemed so futile
My outlook bored and bleak

I could have stayed a nobody
Not the monster I became
But none of that matters anymore
When I slice into your brain

I see the pieces, how they fit
I know what makes them tick
The only gift that was truly mine
But now I take my pick

Each new ability feeds my soul
I feel my power grow
I sink my teeth in, take a bite
It's more addictive than you know

Terror and repulsion
It's there in every scream
They see me as a monster
But that's just fine by me

I refuse to be a nothing
I bade goodbye to Gabriel Gray
I'm Sylar now and ever more
So call me by my name!
I wrote the lyrics to Sylar's Song shortly after I finished binge-watching the series Heroes on Netflix. I completely fell in love with Gabriel/Sylar, and the words for this song's opening verse came to me straightaway. I had the melody figured out early too; however, I've been sitting on this for a few weeks trying to work out an accompaniment. Inspiration hasn't struck in that quarter yet, and I am busy with other projects, so I decided to put out an a cappella version of the song for now, and I can add an accompanied version in the future if/when I sort out the piano part.

The song is sung by Sylar when in full killer-mode in season one. (Think of the scene where HRG calls him Gabriel and he yells back that his name is Sylar.) I am toying with the idea of writing a second set of lyrics for him, based around his feelings late in season four, but we'll see.

This is purely fan art. I receive no remuneration from this work.
